children's ministry

first time in sunday school?

Safety is a big concern at TWC.  When you arrive on a Sunday morning, there will be a Welcome Station right inside the entrance to check in your children for Sunday School.  You will be given a card that you must present at the end of service in order to pick up your child.  Children typically stay with their parents for the worship portion of service.  At the end of worship, the children are called to the front of the sanctuary, where we pray for them before dismissing them to Sunday School with their teachers.  If you are new to TWC, you are encouraged to accompany your child to their classroom for the first time.  This way you can make your child feel at home and also see where to pick up your child at the end of service. Children's Ministry is available for children ages birth to 6th Grade.  It is important to note that all of our Sunday School Teachers have Child Abuse Clearances.

Our Children's Ministry Director is Shelby Akers. She is one of our founding members and has been with this ministry since Day One.  She is very passionate about our children. She has a way of making each one feel loved and affirmed, whether they deserve it or not. Typically, our kids don't like to leave Sunday School.

Shelby resides in South Williamsport with her husband Mark and three children, Alex, Aaron and Abby.  She has a degree in Human Services from Pennsylvania College of Technology.  Shelby also works as a Personal Aide in the South Williamsport Area School District.  She has sat on several Boards related to children. She loves all things kids and can usually be found in the middle of some type of children's activity! She is a huge asset to TWC!

welcome to Trolley town

Our Children's Area has been affectionately named Trolley Town, located on the second floor.  The building was donated to us right before its 100th birthday!!  Our building turned 100 in 2016, the same year that our city turned 150.  We thought it would be fitting to name our classrooms in tribute to some of the historical people and places of Williamsport. Trolley Town was named after Peter Herdic's famous Herdic Trolley.  Another fun fact: Carl Stotz, a member of the former congregation that was here, created Little League right in our building!!! One of our rooms is called Little League Lane in his honor.  We also have the Hiawatha Harbor, and the Wilds Room among others.  We hope to paint murals depicting this beautiful history in the coming months.

our lovely kiddos

Our children are one of the most important components of our church.  If kids don't feel comfortable at church, neither will their parents.  Please know how important it is to us that your kiddos feel safe and loved here.  Our teachers lament when kids are missing.  They genuinely love to see them and view it as an honor.  They are not just filling posts to meet a need.  We've had many families join the church because of relationships that were initiated by the kids, through school, sports and other places kids congregate. God has been faithful in this ministry!  We can't wait to see what the future holds!
